Practice management software is the firm-side system that sits behind client work — onboarding, deadlines, workflow, time and billing, AML, and the document trail an institute review will ask to see. The 8 platforms below cover everything from sole-practitioner cloud tools through to enterprise suites used by Top 50 firms.

How we picked these: every product carrying the practice-management tag is included automatically. Capium also appears here because its all-in-one platform competes directly in this category.

Common questions

How does practice management differ from bookkeeping software?

Bookkeeping software is the client's books. Practice management is the firm's operating system — who owes a tax return on what date, which client has signed an engagement letter, what hours have been logged and billed. Some platforms do both (Capium) but most do one well and integrate with the other.

Cloud or desktop?

Cloud is now the default for new firms. Desktop suites like IRIS Practice Management remain widely used in larger established firms with on-premise workflow. The deployment line on each card shows which model the platform uses.

Does any of these include accounts production?

Capium is the main UK platform that bundles practice management, bookkeeping and accounts production in one subscription. Most others focus on workflow only and pair with separate production tools (TaxCalc, IRIS, Sage).
